Faith in the Machine Age: Catholic Wisdom for Living with AI

When did screens start controlling our lives — and what does our faith, our gospel message, our philosophical insights say about it? Join us for a ten-week journey through Catholic social teaching that speaks directly to our tech-saturated world. From Pope Leo XIII’s defense of factory workers to today’s algorithm-driven gig economy, discover timeless wisdom that helps us stay human in an increasingly digital age.

Each week, we’ll explore a major Church teaching and honestly examine how AI and technology are reshaping our work, families, and prayer lives. Guided by the insights of Thomas Merton, Marshall McLuhan, and Mortimer Adler, we’ll use the classic See–Judge–Act method to connect what’s happening in our daily lives with what the Gospel calls us to do about it.

This isn’t a tech tutorial or a doom-and-gloom warning. It’s a space for honest conversations, prayerful reflection, and practical action. Whether you’re a digital native or still figuring out your smartphone, your experience matters here. Together, we’ll ask: How can we shape technology instead of letting it shape us? What wisdom should we pass on to our children and grandchildren about living faithfully with machines?

Come as you are. After all, it is Zoom. Bring your lunch or snacks, and bring your questions, your frustrations, and your hope. Let’s figure this out together.

I will also record the Zoom session in case you miss one; we all know stuff happens. I will turn off the recording after the presentation for more discussion without worrying about being recorded, just saying..😎

I am viewing this class as a “capstone” to several of the classes I have previously presented, now taking a fresh look and a new perspective on where we currently stand in the evolution of autonomous technologies and our lives, with an eye on social teachings.
